Matongo is an award-winning Marketer, having won both the Marketing Personality of the year and the President’s Marketing award and served as a Brand Ambassador for Africa Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA). He is Chartered Marketer, Economic development Expert, Entrepreneur, Business Strategist and An Academician with specialisation in Branding and Consumer Psychology.
He has more than 29 years private and public sector experience having worked for 5 multinationals in various marketing functions and government agencies mostly around Trade and Investment Promotion, Tourism Marketing, Enterprise Development and Public Policy formulation.
Currently Matongo serves as Vice Chancellor of Kenneth Kaunda Metropolitan University, a university he co-founded in 2012, having previously served as Director General of Zambia Development Agency.
He is a Past President of the Zambia Institute of Marketing and has served on a number of boards which include African Grey Insurance, ZAMBIA Tourism Agency, ZCCM-IH, Securities Exchange Commission, Kaizen Institute of Zambia, Zambia Mass Communication Education Trust, Palliative Care Alliance Zambia, Intrepid Media and Research etc.
Matongo is a Charted Marketer, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing -UK (CIM) and a Fellow of Zambia Institute of Marketing (ZIM).
Internationally, he has been a Key Speaker at World Investment Forum – Geneva, Investour- Madrid, Germany Chamber of Commerce annual meeting – Berlin, TICAD 7 – Yokohama, China – Africa Economic Forum – Beijing, Africa Investment Forum – Cairo, South African – Zambia Business Forum – Pretoria and African Engineering Conference – Livingstone. Locally, he has undertaken speaking assignments at the following professional conferences; Zambia Institute Marketing, Zambia Institute of Human Resource Management, Zambia Institute of Purchasing, Engineering Institute of Zambia, Economic Association of Zambia and Zambia Public Relations Association.
